The GARAGE SALE series is continuation of my journey with a focus on the themes of “past” and “impermanence”. It consists of photographs taken at flea markets, estate sales, and junk stores. Sometimes it feels as if we are trying to erase the past. Once cherished baby dresses, toy trunks still full of dolls, and family albums are sold at garage sales. This series is a reflection on discarded things of the past whose value is not necessarily in the preciousness of the material, practical usefulness, or conventional attractiveness but in the priceless memories they evoke. The Eastern philosophy wabi sabi, teaches, among other things, that aging improves things. Rather than feeling contempt for old outdated objects that we rush to replace, we need to have better appreciation for the things we already have and be mindful of each new purchase, which may end up at a garage sale....
