The ZENSCAPES series consists of images of meditative objects or landscapes, some of which I took at Green Gulch Zen Center's farm and garden at Muir Beach, California.
It is said that Oriental artists are not interested in a photographic representation of an object but in interpreting its spirit. In my art I strive to do just the opposite: to interpret the spirit of an object — a sculpture, stone, a seashell, or a dry sea weed — through photographic representation. I hope that in my art photographs, which involve no computer manipulation, I have managed to capture the sense of mystery and illusion which is usually easier to convey through poetry or music.
