About this series:
The SCRAP ART series consists of photographs I took at abandoned California forts, ghost towns, coastal pumping stations, dumps, and other places where I found an unexpected wealth of beautiful shapes, colors and textures, as well as a rich opportunity to explore the abstract in the material word. Together with my other series with a focus on the themes of past and impermanence, SCRAP ART is a reflection on discarded things of the past whose value is not necessarily in the preciousness of the material, practical usefulness, or conventional attractiveness. Its message is that beauty and artistic ideas can be found even in a pile of trash, a tarnished can, abandoned car, or corroded fence.
